CÁNOVAS Y EL LIBERALISMO CONSERVADOR
Written by Carlos Dardé, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Cantabria,Cánovas y el liberalismo conservador offers a comprehensive view of Malaga’s politician, historian and essayist, architect of the Restoration. Cánovas del Castillo (1828-1897) managed to open a new era in the history of the classical-liberal regime in Spain and applied a realistic and integrating feature to political action which he considered inherent to the conservative spirit.

MAURA. LA POLÍTICA PURA
This biography, prepared by Professor of International Relations at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas José María Marco, offers the reader a close-up of Antonio Maura (1853-1925), promoter of the Constitutional Monarchy’s democratisation. The pages of Maura. La política pura, retrieve the politican who was admitted to the Conservative Party convinced that it was the best platform to integrate citizenship into Spanish life, modernise the country and restore its rightful role on the international stage.

SILVELAENTRE EL LIBERALISMO Y EL REGENERACIONISMO
Luis Arranz Notario, Professor of History of Social and Political Movements of the Complutense University of Madrid, tries to highlight the roots, and the significance of Francisco Silvela (1843 -1905). in the book Silvela. Entre el liberalismo y el regeneracionismo. Notario, at the same time, seeks to shed light on the different angles of his short and difficult time in office and recognises the way in which he managed to preserve the Spanish constitutional system, in contrast to the disappointing results of the regenerationist recipes.

These three biographical essays show the significance of the role played by Cánovas, Maura and Silvela in the design and consolidation of the Restoration and the constitutional system that emanated from it.Written in a simple and refined style, aimed at a wider audience, not exclusively academic, interested in the political history of contemporary Spain, these books pursue the political careers of these personalities, their personal evolution, their public actions and the context in which they developed, their ideological conception and their relationship with their political opponents.
